Introduction:
The Royal Life Saving Society Grey Medallion is a water safety and lifesaving skills program for older people aiming to reduce drowning rates and encourage healthy, independent and active lifestyles.
The Grey Medallion recognises that regular physical activity can reduce the risk of heart attack, improve blood cholesterol, lower blood pressure, and help prevent falls. Aquatic exercise is an ideal form of physical activity that is suitable for active people, as well as those with restricted mobility, such as people suffering from arthritis.
The Grey Medallion program endeavours to teach participants a range of personal survival techniques, provide them with skills to deal with an emergency situation and to develop confidence and competence to enjoy aquatic exercise and other water-based activities safely.
