It is assumed that participants are sufficiently physically fit and healthy to undertake this course. The following physical activities will occur during the course unless you advise of any physical difficulties or limitations: kneeling‚ bending over‚ crouching‚ standing‚ leaning‚ sitting‚ pushing, lifting weights, swimming long distances, towing, diving, carrying and other physical activity.
The specific requirements required for successful completion of the Bronze Star are:
- A Theory Assessment
- Performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation on an adult manikin on the ground
- Practical water Assessment including:
a) Reach Rescue
b) Throw Rescue – Unweighted rope
c) Timed Tow (50 metre swim and tow within 3 minutes and 15 seconds)
d) Swim (4 x 100m in 13 minutes)
e) Survival Skills
f) Accompanied Rescue
g) Tow rescue (Non-contact)
h) Perform spinal injury management
i) Perform defensive and escape techniques.
j) Search and Rescue
k) Recover and Resuscitate
l) Initiative in an incident
