30) Aquatic Technical Operator (Pool Plant Operations)

Royal Life Saving’s Aquatic Technical Operations course (previously know as Pool Plant Operations) provide the knowledge and skills to safely manage water quality and pool plant operations from the largest aquatic facility through to a single pool at a campground or motel, or even your own backyard pool.

This is a unique skill set that is vital for the safe and successful operation of any organisation or facility that provides access to a swimming pool. The course focus includes monitoring and maintaining pool water quality, operating plant/equipment, risk management and developing maintenance programs and step by step procedures.
 
Pre-requisite: There are no pre-requisites for this course, although some experience with pool plant equipment or operation is strongly recommended
Minimum age: 16 years
Course Length: 16 hours (plus workplace activities)

Units of Competency:
  • BSBWHS308 Participate in WHS hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control processes
  • SISXFAC009 Coordinate facility maintenance
  • SISCAQU015 Test pool water quality
  • SISCAQU016 Manage pool water quality
  • SISCAQU017 Monitor and maintain aquatic facility plant and equipment
Workplace Assessment: This course includes some workplace assessment activities that requires you to have a suitable workplace supervisor to confirm that you have successfully completed these activities. These activities are completed in your workplace after you have attended the formal part of the training.

Delivery Formats: This course is available in the following format:
  • Face-to-face delivery over two days (plus workplace assessment)
This course includes three (3) parts:
  1. Part 1: Workplace Health & Safety Module (completed online, or in a face-to-face session)
  2. Part 2: Water Quality & Maintenance Module (completed online, or in a face-to-face session)
  3. Part 3: Activities to complete in your workplace (completed in your workplace)
Re-Accreditation: Royal Life Saving Queensland recommends every four (4) years
Level of English: A reasonable level of English is required to be able to complete this course successfully

Part 1 Delivered in a classroom 
Part 2 Delivered in a classroom
Part 3 Completed in your workplace

Participants will require the following for the face-to-face component:
- Photo Identification (i.e. Drivers Licence)
- Your Unique Student Identifier (www.usi.gov.au)
- Your manuals (if applicable)
- Appropriate clothing
- Any drinks‚ meals and/or snacks
