It is assumed that participants are sufficiently physically fit and healthy to undertake this course. The following physical activities will occur during the course unless you advise of any physical difficulties or limitations: kneeling‚ bending over‚ crouching‚ standing‚ leaning‚ sitting‚ pushing‚ lifting weights, swimming long distances, towing, diving, carrying and other physical activity.
The specific requirements required for successful completion of the Pool Lifeguard Re-accreditation are:
Assessment Activity 1: Answer a series of written questions based on:
• Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
• Perform Basic Water Rescue
• Supervise Clients in an Aquatic Facility or Environment.
• Perform Advanced Water Rescues
• Provide Emergency Care
• Administer Oxygen in an Emergency Situation
Assessment Activity 2: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
Demonstration of the Primary Survey (DRSABCD) on Adult and Infant. Techniques performed as per:
• Australian Resuscitation Council Guidelines;
• First Aid Code of Practice;
• Workplace Procedures; and
• Relevant State/Territory Regulations.
Scenario 1: Safe Manual Handing, rolling the unconscious casualty on the back and in to the recover position.
Scenario 2: Demonstration of the Primary Survey (DRSABCD) on an Adult and Infant manikin
Assessment Activity 3: Pool Lifeguard Tasks (11 tasks to the successfully completed):
Task PLG1: Communicate with aquatic facility patrons in a positive and constructive way to resolve situations
Task PLG2: Participate in one discussion with an aquatic activity leader to clarify safety rules
Task PLG3: Administer CPR, incorporating supplemented oxygen with Bag-Valve-Mask, to a child manikin
Task PLG4: Non-swimming reach rescue of a conscious patient from out of water.
Task PLG5: Non-swimming throw rescue of a conscious patient from out of water.
Task PLG6: Perform a 10-metre swim and then a 10-metre non-contact tow before extracting patient from the water without assistance.
Task PLG7: Perform a 10-metre swim and then a 10-metre contact tow before extracting patient from the water with assistance from one other person.
Task PLG8: Perform a 10-metre swim and then a 10-metre contact tow of a conscious casualty before extracting patient from the water without assistance.
Task PLG9: Rescue, Extraction and Oxygen CPR, complete incident report form
Task PLG10: Respond to a patient with a suspected spinal injury in shallow water (1.2m or less)
Task PLG11: 25m swim and 25m non-contact tow of a conscious casualty with an assisted landing.
Industry Recommended (IR) Assessment
1) Assessment Task IR1: Respond to a patient with a suspected spinal in deep water (1.3 or more)
2) Assessment Task IR2: Complete a Validation Swim
3) Assessment Task IR3: Respond to a patient requiring First Aid with the use of oxygen therapy
